Tangled World is an online journal or blog (short for web log) which aims to bring you information and insight into travelling and the travel industry; its effects and its potential.
‘Tangled’ means “something highly complex and intricate” or “in a confused mass“. Either way, it seemed a good word to explain our view that, since we’re all in this world together, we should all look after it and each other. We are interdependent, we are connected. Sometimes the connections are a tangled mess, but sometimes we can make the links a little less knotty and a lot more supportive.
As in all things, we have a choice as to how, where and when we travel. Our belief is that we should do it ethically, positively and with sensitivity.
Why?
We started the blog as an avenue to bring to life some of the issues and experiences which we deal with on a daily basis, but for which our main website pages are not the right outlet.
We also wanted to attract more people to consider responsible and ethical travel through these discussions.
We’d like to bring you news and views on holidays and how they can make a difference, and tourism and its effects on our world, in particular the developing world.
Who writes it?
It is written by various members of Tribes, the Fair Trade Travel company. Contributors include Amanda Marks, Guy Marks, Max Griffiths and others.
We also intend to invite guest writers in order to get varied views on different issues. This may include travellers, hotel owners, guides or tourism ministers - all experts within their own field of tourism, and stakeholders within different aspects of the industry.
We encourage you to contribute by clicking on Add to the Discussion. If you would like to present a new topic, please email Amanda.
Who is it for?
It is for you … if you have an interest in travel, cultural and biodiversity, sustainability and conservation. We hope you will enjoy and add to some of the issues we will be discussing.
It is for the people in the destinations we travel to … to give them a means to voice opinions and thoughts we may not otherwise hear.
It is for our business partners across the world … who see a different side to tourism. Hotel owners, guides, ground handlers …
It is for Tribes’ travellers … if you are interested in getting a better view of the beliefs and knowledge of your holiday organisers.
